The company was originally formed as a partnership between Brian Cox & Fraser Allen in 1965, when they specialised in carrying out a lot of stone walling for the various motorways & roads that were being built in the area at the time.
Until about 1980 the business operated in two parts, the Kendal part operated & supervised by Brian Cox and the Morland part being operated & supervised by Mr Allen. By 1980 the Kendal part of the business was significantly larger than the Morland part and Brian decided to buy Mr Allen out.
Having subsequently operated from from their traditional builders yard and joinery workshop in Castle Street, Kendal, in 1984 the company moved into purpose built Offices, Workshop, Garage and a yard area at Shap Road Industrial Estate, where they remained until 2005 when they moved into new office, garage & storage facilities, at Meadowbank Business Park, Shap Road. Again the buildings were purpose built and included wind generators, low-energy lighting, and modern specification to help keep the company’s carbon footprint as low as possible, in these environmentally aware times.
Our Kendal base means that the company has good access to Cumbria, North Lancashire and the Furness Peninsular, the company’s main sphere of operations.
We are pleased to carry out work for private, corporate and public sector clients on a traditional tender or design and build basis. We are also experienced in, and able to carry out planned, or reactive maintenance works through our dedicated small works team.
We are always happy to discuss an early involvement with a project, even ‘open book’ negotiations.
In 2015 Cox and Allen celebrated our 50th Anniversary and we maintain a strong position to carry on for the next 50 years.
